Drug abuse has had a devastating effect on our community. Unfortunately, we’ve suffered from a deep lack of leadership on this issue across all levels of government. I will take the lead in ensuring a compassionate but reasonable approach to the problem, while prioritizing the safety and security of all our residents.
- Eliminate open-air drug use
- New safety and cleanliness measures to help protect residents experiencing disorder adjacent to SIS sites
- Enhance and streamline the path to recovery: work with partners to deliver better access to counselling and substance abuse help
- Support for safe injection. I believe they are part of the solution, preventing overdoses and saving lives while reducing the burden on emergency services. They also help steer users toward rehabilitation services: the Shepherds of Good Hope site for example is helping 30 to 40 people a month access drug rehabilitation
